Multifamily Program Overview
The DTE Energy Multifamily Program offers two ways for multifamily building owners and tenants to save money on utility bills.
 

Direct Install Approach
The DTE Energy Multifamily Program may install the following FREE energy saving upgrades* within units:

  • DTE electric customer: ENERGY STAR® LED lightbulbs
  • DTE natural gas customer: Energy efficient showerheads, kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators, hot water pipe wrap, and programmable thermostats.
  • DTE electric and natural gas customer: ENERGY STAR® LED lightbulbs, energy efficient showerheads, kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators, hot water pipe wrap, and programmable thermostats.
    *Energy-saving products installed are dependent upon DTE Energy account type and eligibility

In-Unit Incentives
Rebates are available for upgrading existing equipment including lighting, HVAC, and domestic hot water fixtures.


Common Area Incentives
DTE Energy is offering rebates to assist you with making improvements in the common areas of your multifamily building. The rebate amount will be based on your operating hours as well as the existing and proposed equipment.

Electric upgrades may include energy-efficient LED lamps and fixtures, LED exit signs, lighting controls and sensors, and parking lot and safety lighting. Energy-efficient gas upgrades may include pipe wrap insulation, boiler tune-ups/replacement, steam trap repair/
replacement, and boiler controls.


Multifamily properties qualify if they are a DTE Energy natural gas and/or electric customer and their property has three or more units under one roof. Properties that qualify as multifamily include apartments, co-operative housing, condominiums, senior living facilities, and dormitories.

Following the assessment, you will receive a Multifamily Savings Report that identifies if your property qualifies for direct install and/or in-unit and common area incentives. If your property has one fuel type from DTE Energy and one fuel type from Consumers Energy, the Multifamily program can perform the direct install and assessment for both utilities in a single visit. DTE Energy has partnered with Consumers Energy to make program participation easy for property owners. To get started, request your assessment online or call us at 866.796.0512.


DTE Energy offers an Income Qualified component as part of the Multifamily program. The Income Qualified program is focused on energy savings for both subsidized and properties that are located in federal low income census tracts. Rebates for the Income Qualified properties are substantial.
